AGM Chair’s Report by Kerry Pollard
LHG has had an exceptional year.
We had the best Party Conference Fringe I can remember – and I’ve attended many – a packed hall with a range of top quality speakers, John Healey was keynote speaker.
We held a Policy Day in Manchester, again very well attended, with Hilary Benn as keynote speaker, with workshops – thanks to Manchester City Council for their hospitality.
Liverpool was the venue for our second Policy Day. The event hosted by Liverpool City Council, we are particularly grateful to Cllr Frank Hont who was a keynote speaker but also facilitated our day. Again breakout sessions all helping to formulate LHG policy and develop ideas.
A group of us met with John Healey at the House of Commons to discuss our ideas for promoting the housing agenda – we have in John an outstanding Shadow Minister.
We have been keen to encourage the formation of new Branches and are working with NW members to set up a NW Branch, we hope followed by a Midlands Branch.
I am grateful for the hard work of our EC, particularly Paul Eastwood – our Hon Sec who has done an outstanding job, Ed Derrick has published our regular newsletter again fantastic commitment.
Housing has rightly moved up the political agenda – we launched our ‘Benefits to Bricks’ manifesto – build homes create prosperity!
